Reserves get a friendly win over neighbours

MONEYSLANE Reserves played local rivals Rathfriland Thirds in a pre-season friendly last week.

It was a good run out for the Slane lads who ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Rathfriland came out of the blocks at a quick pace and pushed Slane back in the early stages and they got the breakthrough when a long clearance by the Town keeper was not dealt with the by the defence and they were punished with a well taken goal.

Slane pushed forward looking for the equaliser and were finding it hard to get past Jackson and Scott at the Town’s rearguard.

They got their deserved equaliser when Kelly threw the ball long to Boyd inside the box and he nodded it past the town’s keeper and into the net.

Slane took the lead in style when new signing Gareth Wilson hit one of the best goals seen at Ingram Park against his old Club to put Slane in the driving seat.

Veteran Gibson pulled of some good saves in between the sticks for Slane and his son Curtis missed a few good chances to bury the game at the other end.

In the closing stages Boyd scored his second when he neatly brought the ball down skipped past his marker and fired low into the bottom right corner past the stranded keeper for the winner.

This was a good run out for the Reserves against a strong Town side and best for Slane on the night was Gareth Hamilton in midfield.
