THINGS can only get better for Scarva Rangers Reserves in 2010 after this disastrous start to the new year.

Facing an Ambassadors side that sits second in Mid-Ulster Reserve Division Three, Scarva were always in for a tough encounter. By the end of Saturday’s clash at Kernan Park they were a well beaten side.

The first half gave little hint of what was in store for Scarva during a calamitous second half. Before the interval the visitors were the better side. The Rangers defence was rarely troubled and the majority of the play took place in the Ambassadors half.

That said, they had precious few chances to show for their superiority. Nathan Dodds fired a venomous shot over the crossbar and Stephen McNeill whipped a dangerous ball across the face of the Ambassadors goal but no-one in a Scarva shirt could apply the finishing touch.

The game was scoreless at the halt time break but Ambassadors drew first blood in the second half and Scarva collapsed like a deck of cards.

Before long the home side was 4-0 up and out of sight.

Substitute Gareth Anderson connected clinically with a Gary Dodds corner to give Scarva a consolation goal late in the game.
