Reid earns Bann a draw after tough tie with Quins

Quins took the game to Bann from the outset and tested the Bann defence early on but the normal centre back pairing of Anderson and Matson stayed firm and managed to break down any promising opportunities.

Bann grew into the game and MacConnell was using his pace down the right flank to link up with the forward pairing of of Matthews and Clarke. Burns and Dean were marshalling the centre of midfield well with the first half turning into a midfield battle.

Clarke had a good opportunity after a flowing move from Bann but was denied by the Quins keeper when well placed in the circle. Bann were lucky to survive a couple of late chances created by Quins towards the end of the first half and went into half-time all square with neither keeper really tested.

The game opened up in the second half as both sides looked to gain the advantage. Good chances fell to Matthews and Clarke but again the Quins keeper wasn’t stretched.

Quins continued to probe the Bann defence and after a quick free hit was taken, a Quins midfielder turned sharply in the Bann circle and fired into the bottom corner to give Quins the lead.

The young Bann side got back into the game after good work down the left from Jordon found Matthews leading into space. After beating a couple of defenders, his cross from the baseline reached Reid who showed great composure to finish whilst under pressure. Chances fell to both teams to take all three points but neither could convert and a draw was a fair result.

The Thirds remain in fourth place in Junior Two and now face a trip to Lough Moss on Saturday to take on Annadale Thirds.
