Reserves Vs Rathfriland Swifts Reserves

The Swifts Reserves travelled to Coalisland searching for three points that would, a physical Coalisland Athletic side stood in their way. The game couldn’t have gotten off to a better start, a good ball from Gary O’Reilly 10 minutes in put Joe Toal through on goal; he was cut down as he attempted to get his shot off, the referee correctly pointed to the spot. Niall Maginn took the penalty to give the visitors the lead. At the other end Trainor pulled of a succession of great saves to hold the advantage, tipping one effort onto the bar and making a spectacular one handed stop at his near post. To the home-sides credit they persevered and levelled the score on the half hour mark, a superb strike into the top corner left Trainor with no chance. Coalisland took the momentum and scored 5 minutes later when a mix up in defence led to a poor clearance, the impressive striker struck well to find the net. Rathfriland reacted well and were denied a goal when Joe Toal’s effort was ruled out for a very dubious offside call. The visitors brought an entertaining half to a close when good passing play in midfield sent Joe Toal through on goal, he held is nerve to finish well into the bottom corner. Half-time scoreline 2-2. The second half started in total contradiction to the first, Rathfriland conceded 2 goals in a five minute period, handing control of the game to Coalisland. Rathfriland fought for a way back into the game and found a way through when Gary O’Reilly broke through the defence and drilled a low effort through the goalkeepers legs. On the day poor goals were conceded at poor times, however the Swifts Reserves did look impressive going forward at times. The Swifts Reserves will now be looking three points away to Scarva Rangers Reserves.
