Rathfriland gearing up for start of the new season

IT seems every season that the new one comes quicker and quicker each time and none is more eagerly awaited for this time round with it all change at Rathfriland FC.

In has come former Loughgall player Brian Adair as manager of Rathfriland Rangers and his coach Errol Curran – they have brought with them a raft of footballing talent that one would have thought impossible not too many Saturdays ago!

After a busy pre season with a number of big game friendlies, the long awaited kick off to the 2010/11 season eventually comes this Saturday with a home fixture to Orangefield OB at 2pm.

This is followed by three further home games which hopefully on completion will see “The Whites” competing well up the league table.

The club would welcome all spectators not only to the first game but to all games and for all of the Rathfriland community to come and support their local team in what hopefully will prove to be a very successful season.

The Swifts` also open their campaign on Saturday with a tough away fixture to favourites Portadown BBOB while the Colts campaign gets underway on 4th September with a home fixture against Newcastle. Have a good one!

MIDWEEK SPECIAL! - Next Tuesday, August 17, is a big night for Rathfriland FC with Rangers hosting Downshire YM in a league fixture at Iveagh Park while the Swifts lock horns with derby rivals Moneyslane in the reintroduction of the derby day for the two teams for the first time since the Swifts departed the Newcastle League some years ago.

In Mid Ulster Division Two they don`t come much bigger than this!
