Rangers make it seven from eight

This was win number seven out off eight for Andy Frazer’s in form side who were remarkably rooted to the foot off the table in October when he took over and has lead them to the opposite end of the table.

Early morning work saw any ground water cleared off the pitch and may have contributed to the slow start to the game with neither side being able to produce any clear cut chances.

Broomhill did open the scoring when their first opportunity arose after 20 minutes but by the half hour mark Rangers had equalised with Matty McKnight scoring a well taken goal.

Broomhill scored next in a very contentious issue as the referee failed to give an offside for a player who was easily over ten yards offside and was slow coming back from play and stood over a through ball before a late run from left winger Harper came forward and executed a fine shot from the edge of the area with Rangers incensed that the decision wasn’t made.

Banbridge Rangers pressed Broomhill back for the majority of play until half time without being able to find an equaliser. After the break a rejuvenated Rangers side started to take control off play in midfield which had been bypassed by long ball tactics from both camps in the opening 45 minutes.

On 52 minutes centre half Ryan Gregg got the Gers back on level terms with a thunderbolt off a shot from over thirty yards which found the side netting.

Soon after Banbridge Rangers edged in front for the first time when Coly Cousins flighted a ball into the path of Andy McLarty and his shot was well saved but he was on hand to blast home the rebound to make it 3-2 midway through the half.

There was only one team in the game at this point and Richie McMinn should have made it four when the ever impressive Jason Gourley went past his marker to the byline and pulled back but the resultant shot was skewed wide.

Coly Cousins was next to attempt to extend the Gers lead but his effort fizzed over the top of the crossbar from the edge of the box. Late on Gareth Fulton did add the final goal to secure the points with a well taken goal as reward for an industrious afternoon up front.

Rangers’ performance in the second half was one of the best of the season with Porter and Chambers looking assured at the back whilst Richie McMinn rolled back the years with an influential performance in the middle of the park.

This Saturday Banbridge Rangers will be hoping to scalp the only undefeated team in the league so far this season when they travel to the Madden Road to face Tandragee Rovers. The game against the league favourites kicks off at 2.15pm and looks to be one of the key games in the Mid Ulster programme this weekend.
