Rab takes top prize at Islandderry event with two fish bag of 12lb

Islandderry Fishery, Dromore, played host to the Irish Disabled Fly Fishing Competition on Saturday with anglers coming from as far as Dundalk to support the competition to raise money for the Irish Disabled Fly Fishing Team.

The competition was tight with some lovely trout being caught and released throughout the day and all getting their two fish bag. IDFFA team member Rab Clements, Banbridge, took first place with a two fish bag weight of 12lb, which included a full tailed rainbow of 8lb2 caught on a dry fly.

Second place went to Paul Brown, Dromore with two fish for 9lb2.

IDFFA team member Paddy McKenna, Dundalk, bagged third place with his two fish bag of 8lb1, while Lurgan angler Bill Johnston landed fourth place with two fish for 7lb4.

Fishery regular Sean Gibson, Belfast, missed out on first place by bagging up to early with a weight of 6lb8 and then landed a fish just under 7lb which unfortunately couldn’t be counted making Sean have to settle for fifth place. Lisburn angler Ronnie McFadden had 5lb9 giving him sixth place.

A big thank you to all who supported the event and to Mrs Dympna Clements and Mrs Audrey Kerr for the lovely stew, soup and homemade wheaten bread! The next event at the fishery is the ever popular all night fishing competition and BBQ on Saturday, June 22. Anglers will fish from 7pm to 7am with a break in between for the BBQ. There will be prizes for the heaviest bag of three trout. All welcome. For more information contact the fishery on 07859 074424 or via facebook or www.islandderryfisheryandtackle.co.uk
