Pot Black are through to the final of League Cup, but their 4-0 semi-final win - without loss of a frame - wasn’t just as easily achieved as it sounds.

The match at Burn Road was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests, as every close frame, and there were plenty, went the way of the home team.

Dermot Loughran gave Pot Black the lead with a quick-fire 2-0 win over Stephen McNulty. Useful mid frame runs of 39 in the first and 38 in the second from Loughran proved to be the decisive contributions.

Peter Reilly just edged Ollie O’Neill by clearing from the last two reds to pink to get home in a deciding frame finish. A clearance from yellow to pink, held together by an outrageous fluke on the brown, helped Reilly pinch the opener before O’Neill responded by dominating the second frame.

Mickey Quinn hit backfrom 60 behind against James Conway in the first fto win another pink ball frame for Pot Black. Quinn saved his best for last as he clinched the win with a fine 79 in frame two, missing a tricky yellow with a century clearance beckoning.

Patrick Wallace took a fourth pink ball frame and made 60 to beat Martin Doris.

The Cookstown team now await the winners of the semi-final in which McVeighs A are hosts to Max Keady A.
