Positives to take from Mid Ulster loss

Dromore Amateurs 0

Camlough Rovers 2

DROMORE Amateurs’ involvement in the Mid-Ulster Cup came to abrupt end on Saturday when Camlough Rovers ran out 2-0 victors at Ferris Park.

Rovers have made a flying start to the season in Mid-Ulster Intermediate B, so the fact this was such a tight game must offer Dromore a small crumb of encouragement.

But when you’re winning, things go for you – and so it proved, as, in the first half, Camlough found themselves the grateful recipients of two goals which, from a Dromore point of view, were exceedingly soft.

The Amateurs dominated possession in the second period from start to finish – Camlough were virtual strangers to the Dromore goal area – but the most the home side could muster were a handful of half chances which weren’t taken.

Donaghadee Seconds 1

Dromore Amateurs IIs 0

The two bottom teams in 3F clashed head-on last Saturday - and it was Donaghadee who edged a close encounter 1-0.

This was a competitive and honestly-fought match-up – a neutral observer would probably have said afterwards that a draw would have been the fairest result.

But the Seconds have a problem: hitting the back of the net is proving near on impossible.

So when Donaghadee sneaked a goal on 55 minutes, they must have felt pretty confident about securing all three points.

For the remainder of the match, Dromore threw everything (including the kitchen sink) at their opponents.

But Donaghadee stood firm, and the Amateurs made the long, long journey home left praying that, hopefully, next week everything will finally click into place in front of goal.
