He is now ready to start his preparations for the Northern Ireland Indoor Championships which are in March.

Joel shoots in the boys barebow class at the Thursday night session.

2014 was the best year for local club Ballyvally archers.

Six members of the club represented GB in the World Field Champiohips in Croatia in the summer and Craig McCreery came back with gold medal as a member of the three archer team which won the Junior World Field Championships.

In the NI Indoor Championships the junior boys and girls lifted 13 out of the 14 major overall awards and the seniors did almost as well winning 10 out of the 12 overall awards.

Also in May the club hosted the British Open Field Archery Championships for the fourth time, these results will be hard to follow in 2015.

Interested in having a go at a new challenging sport?

Ballyvally will start back this week (Wed 7th /Thurs 8th January) in Banbridge Leisure Centre with the usual 8 sessions. Five sessions in the afternoon and three sessions after teatime.

Archery is for everybody, especially families. The club’s youngest archer is four years of age and their oldest just a young 90 years of age. Contact club coach Frank Mulligan on 028 406 23748 for further details on how to start.

Outdoor Forest Archery:

Ballyvally’s first outdoor shoot in the woods (called “field archery”) will take place on Sat 17th /Sun 18th January.

Preparations are already well under way for this tournament.

It is called the “snowdrop” shoot and goes ahead regardless of the weather.

The club’s second outdoor will be in Castlewellan Forest Park and preparations have already started at Christmas for this.

The Castlewellan Course is now well established as one of the five steep and challenging courses in the UK.

The FITA round shot at both these outdoor shoots will be set up in the local Leisure Centre this week to give members a bit of early practice for the 2015 season.
