Parr-ful performance earns Andrew top spot

As many as 23 hardly golfers headed out at Edenmore in the Lost Boys’ first outing of the season.

Playing in what were the worst conditions the Banbridge based society have ventured out in, wet gear was standard attire all day. A nice mix of new members along with those returning for the new season meant that this set a record number of golfers for any Lost Boys event.

The ‘fines’ introduction this year got some early coins dropping in as a couple of unnamed golfers found trouble off the first tee and needed to reload.

Despite the conditions, plenty enjoyed good scores as greens were receptive. Current league and match play champ, Al Day scooped another prize, the closest to the pin with a well judged shot at the 170 yard downhill seventh.

Longest drive was another keenly fought battle with Warren Adams keeping it on the fairway to walk off with the monthly award on the 13th.

Russell Connell managed to pop in a two at the 172 yard 11th, the only two of the day.

Paul English started where he left off in 2014, with a fine round to score 38 points, a nice two-shot cut for Engy is now applied.

Aaron Cobb carded a 20 out and matched with 20 in and must have thought that 40pts in the conditions would win the monthly crystal trophy.

However, Andrew Parr played some superb shots all day. A chip in birdie on sixth, along with a birdie four on the tough uphill 15th with consistent pars thrown in meant Andy totalled 43 points, enough to win the monthly prize as well as the best newcomer award.

Te Lost Boys now look forward to Round Two at Concrawood in Monaghan on Sunday 22nd March.
