Now they’re cooking as locals’ double dream still on

With Myles Greenfield’s four leading the charge, the locals started well and never looked like losing this game, eventually running out easy winners.

Myles’ excellent rink contributed 17 shots of the difference and with Andy Hughes winning by 7 and DJ Wilson winning by five, the locals could afford a 10 shot defeat for Conor McCartan’s rink and still win comfortably.

Rink 1 J Moffatt, J Magennis, P Convery, DJ Wilson up 19-14

DJ’s four battled hard in a very tight game and third Pete Convery was in outstanding form.

Rink 2 R McElroy, T Bell, S Adamson, A Hughes up 21-14

Skip Andy and his front three always seemed in control of their encounter and yet, until the final quarter, struggled to force any daylight between themselves and their opponents. Second Tony Bell was the pick of the 8 players on this rink.

Rink 3 C Trainor, G Moore, G McElroy, C McCartan down 13-23

Conor’s four were drawn against Cookstown’s Irish international M Wilson and it was the home skip who showed his class throughout putting the away rink to the sword. Credit to the home skip for an inspired performance.

Rink 4 M Higgins, M Merritt, M Trainor, M Greenfield up 30-13

Over the early stages of this game there was little to separate the two rinks but scores of 3,3,1,5 from ends 11-14 set up the win.

Having already defeated Ballymoney, Cookstown and Coleraine all of the Provincial Towns League, Dunbarton have been drawn to face yet another Provincial Towns team in the quarter final, namely Portrush.

The date is likely that this will be Saturday 9 August. Two years ago, the locals defeated Portrush in the quarter final before going on to lift the Cup so hopefully this will prove to be a good omen.
