Another good year for Legion

ONCE again a record figure for the local Poppy Appeal was announced by the Royal British Legion in Lurgan in 1986.

And remarkably it was the 26th year in a row that the amount of money raised had gone up on the sum collected in the previous year.

A delighted Poppy organiser, Mr Len McCreanor, revealed that the amount raised was £12,388.95 which was an increase of £700 on the figure for the year before.

He paid tribute to the generosity of the people of the area and praised them for their continued support. “They are second to none,” he said.

As well as the community at large he was quick to praise the schools, churches and business community for all their help during the year.

”What can I say about the Poppy workers to do them justice,” he added. “They have all given their time in service of others and that’s what the good book itself recommends.”
