No luck for Banbridge in Tele foursomes

FOUR golfers from Banbridge went to Fortwilliam Golf Club last Sunday for the second stage of the Belfast Telegraph Foursomes.

Seamus Rooney and Declan Barry were playing in the category two handicap

section (6-12) and they lost in the morning session to a pairing from Blackwood.

Colin Wilton and Luke Woods were playing in the category one handicap

section (0-5). In the morning round, they met a pairing from Whitehead and, thanks to some stirring play, won by 4 and 2.

They were not so fortunate in the afternoon match. Their opponents were Fortwilliam, playing over their home course. And, as it transpired, Fortwilliam did not have to play in the morning as their opponents failed to turn up. So they went into the match against Banbridge totally fresh.

Colin and Wilton gave it their best shot and only lost by 2 and 1.

They were disappointed, naturally enough. The final stage involved going to the Radisson Blue Hotel in County Cavan for a few days and that would have been very nice indeed.

But it wasn’t to be! That’s golf for you!
