Dromore Fours, who were promoted last season into Junior Six, had their first league match of the season against Banbridge Threes at Ferris Park on Saturday and it turned out to be a joyous occasion for the Dromore girls.

It was a lovely sunny day and Dromore were determined to give their all.

The first half saw both teams go close with near misses.

With a strong defence of Lauren Nicholl, Jillian Wilson and Andrea Wilson, Dromore kept passing the ball forward.

It was great to see Holly O’Connor and Alanna Wilson now playing senior hockey and gaining confidence, as they gained ground and kept the pressure on Banbridge’s defence.

Right from the off, the Dromore Fours were focused on getting a goal.

This focus was rewarded early on in the second half with Dromore gaining a penalty corner. The ball was pushed out, received by Nicola Clements who made the decision to drag flick the ball into the backof the net.

It was a truly great result -a goal for Dromore. And it was enough to secure the overall victory.

The final final score was 1 nil to Dromore. A fantastic result for the Fours who had several players playing senior hockey for the first time.

Many thanks to Nicki Gribbon for her brilliant umpiring skills.
