News and views from the Ladies section

ON Tuesday past the 53 Banbridge ladies played in the O2 Trophy competition with prizes very kindly sponsored by Bea Boyce, Robena McCandless, Renee Norris and Liz Ramsey.

On yet another day with difficult scoring conditions, scores were on the whole low however Helen Smyth the overall winner had a tremendous 40 points and picked up the winners prize.

CSS for the day once again moved and went out to 71, not a rare occurrence this season as ladies continue to struggle with the wet weather and heavy conditions.

Golfer of the year Points were awarded as follows: 6, Helen Smyth; 5, Gina McConville; 4, Mary Parkes; 3, Wendy Todd; 2, Helen Sawyers; 1, Denise Nelson.

Handicap cuts: Helen Smyth 16–15; Gina McConville 27–26; Mary Parkes 32–31; Wendy Todd 27–26.

Team news: The last standing team in the Miele competition took on Clandeboye on Saturday August 4 in the Ulster Region semi-final however despite a valiant effort they were knocked out. Congratulations to the team captain Mildred and all the team for getting so far in this competition. Better luck next year.

The Ladies Branch wish to congratulate the Men’s Branch on their winning the Ulster Section of the Barton Shield last weekend – this is a tremendous achievement and they wish them luck in the all-Ireland finals.
