New role for Margaret

BANBRIDGE bowler Margaret Campbell has been elected the President of the Northern Ireland Women’s Bowling Association.

The prestigious moment for the local club was recognized as the club unfurled their flag to mark the beginning on the new season.

Praising Margaret and the members of Banbridge Bowling Club, Ulster Unionist MLA Jo-Anne Dobson, who addressed club members during the flag unfurling ceremony said: “It was great to meet so many sporting women and to share in Margaret’s success as she becomes the President of NIWBA.

“This is a prestigious post and gives a fantastic boost to all the members of Banbridge Bowling Club and I hope will encourage new members to join and take part in the sport. 

“It was also great to meet up with five Presidents of the IWBA, both past and present from Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic.  I know from speaking with some of the ladies that they came to Banbridge specially for this event and stayed locally in our B&B’s which just shows the contribution which events such as these can bring out our local economy.  “
