New management team at troubled Halfway

THERE is a new management team in charge of the Halfway House.

The news comes after the popular restaurant went into administration last month.

Botanic Pubs Limited, who run popular nightspots in Belfast such as the Northern Whig, the Kitchen Bar at Victoria Square and the Apartment, have been put in charge of the Halfway by Gregg Sterritt, working on behalf of administrators FGS McClure Watters.

“I write to advise that as of 23 March 2010 I entered into a management agreement with Botanic Pubs Limited in relation to the running of the Halfway House premises,” he said in a letter to suppliers which the Leader has obtained.

“This management agreement will continue in place until such time as I can conclude a sale of the restaurant or you are advised of alternative arrangements.”

Two weeks ago the Halfway’s owner, Richard Ferris, said it was still business as usual at the popular bar between Banbridge and Dromore.

Mr Ferris said that while he was disappointed that this action had to be taken, he hoped that local people would continue to visit the Halfway. He added that there would be no redundancies.

“Unfortunately it’s just a sign of the times,” he said. “Although we are very busy at the weekends, there is very little trade from Monday to Friday,” he said at the time.
