New look squad loses out to Grosvenor

BANBRIDGE Seconds welcomed some new faces to the squad for their first match in Junior Three following their promotion last season from Junior Four.

It was a nervous start for the team which resulted in couple of early short corners for the Grosvenor side however goal keeper Alana Lyttle skilfully dealt with any threats on goal.

Jade Kennedy dominated the middle of the pitch and was instrumental in pushing the Banbridge attack forward and hard work from the mid field of Jessica Hassan, Helen Sawyers and Megan Whan meant that kept the ball mostly in Bann’s attacking half.

Kate Cunningham controlled the defence well while Sarah Dale made some timely tackles to keep Grosvenor out of the circle resulting in the first half finishing scoreless.

Banbridge stepped up their attack in the second half and were looking much more composed on the ball.

Rosemary Waddell, Megan Whan and Sarah Anderson combined well on the right hand side of the pitch and broke through the Grosvenor defence on many occasions.

Rebecca McCrory worked hard up front while Katie Uprichard and Ashleigh Mitchelll were extremely unlucky not to get their names on the scorecard.

At the back Robyn Turkington and Joanna Palnock showed great strength to cut out any advances from the Grosvenor attack however Banbridge were unlucky to conceded a well places short corner strike.

The remainder of the match saw Banbridge playing in the Grosvenor half winning a string on short corners, which the girls were extremely unlucky to convert.

It may have been a defeat but there were many positive for the Bann girls to take away from the match. Many thanks to Robin and to George for umpiring.
