Narrow win for Dromore

Coach Bekker used the match to rest a couple of players and also to give a couple of fringe players a start. Michael Allen started in the centre, Kyle Patton and Adam McGregor came into the backrow and Adam Proctor and Samuel Russell were keen to make an impact from the start.

The strong Armagh team kicked off and got the game under way, Dromore settled well, and put pressure on the Armagh line.

A drive from a maul saw Steenson nip over but the referee was unsighted, Armagh relieved their lines briefly before Dromore piled forward again and this time the referee had no doubt in awarding a try after a great surge by hooker Mulholland,.

Steenson added the extra points to give the Dromore men a 7-0 lead.

Armagh threatened on occasions through their speedy wingers but it was their out half who got their first points through a finely struck penalty.

Dromore created a couple more clear try scoring chances at the end of the first half but had to settle for a Steenson penalty, to lead 10-3 at the break.

Armagh started the second period the stronger and managed two further penalties before Dromore found top gear again, fine driving by Dalton and Andy Black led to Matty Russell feeding Frazer Mulholland 15 meters from the line and the powerhouse hooker blasted over for a well taken try.

Samuel Russell and Adam Proctor entered the fray for the final 20 minutes and showed up well.

As Dromore attacked again a misplaced pass from midfield allowed the speedy Armagh Ervine show his pace and he scored in the corner to leave the score 15-14 to Dromore with 10 minutes left.

Dromore defended superbly as Armagh pushed for a winning score, their full back made a rapier break in the last minute, he looked to have scored, only to be cut down by a fantastic cover tackle by Blair McDonald, Dromore cleared their lines and claimed the victory.

Dromore are back in league action next week when then travel to University of Ulster Coleraine, Bekker hopes to have a full panel to pick from for the trip.
