Narrow
defeat for Banbridge at Donaghadee

Bann travelled to Bangor Academy on Thursday evening for their first away game of the season against Donaghadee.

A strong Donaghadee side put pressure on the Bann girls from the first whistle creating early turnovers and scoring goal after goal. Bann soon settled into the game and narrowed Donaghadee’s early lead.

Lynn Donaldson in WA alongside Sarah Porter in GA worked the ball tirelessly around the circle to beat the Donaghadee defence successfully getting the ball to Paula McBride in GS to convert some much needed goals.

Bann’s threatening defence pairing of Amanda Johnston in GD and Christine Cartmill in GK took advantage of Donaghadee’s break in play gaining much needed interceptions which Bann’s persistent shooters Sarah Porter GA and Paula McBride GS eagerly converted to goals reducing Donaghadee’s lead to 41-38 at the end of the third quarter.

Both teams went into the fourth quarter focused on winning the game. With the game being so close Bann decided to stick with their starting 7 but knew they had to work hard as a team to break down a solid Donaghadee side. Bann worked vigorously throughout the quarter and managed to create various breaks in play but Donaghadee kept the pressure on, winning 58-50.
