More success for Banbridge cyclists

THE third round of the Ulster Cyclo Cross Championship was held last Sunday at the popular Lady Dixon Park course in Belfast and, once again, and for the third week running, Banbridge riders finished one two to claim top honours in the Senior race yet again.

At the start of the race Matt Adair looked very determined to reverse recent results in the series when he had to be content with finishing second to team mate Roger Aiken.

Bursting to the front straight from the line Matt managed to quickly eke out an eleven second advantage over Roger who was treading carefully in slippery conditions under wheel.

However as the nine lap race developed it was clear that Roger had no intention of succumbing to the early pressure and steadily increased the pace until by the end of the final lap he had over two minutes to spare on the feisty challenger with the rest of the field well beaten.

Roger is clearly in fine form at the moment and looks unbeatable in the series. However Matt – a younger rider, can be very pleased with his own performance given that the third placed finisher was almost two and three quarter minutes behind him.

In a fine fifth place in the Senior race and first place in the B race was David Montgomery once again illustrating the strength in depth of the cyclo cross contingent from Banbridge CC. Dan Purdy had a career best seventh place finish in the B race and seems to improve with every outing.

The leading Banbridge pair will now be difficult to overhaul in the remaining races given their domineering performances to date.
