*THE Friends in the Mountains Fundraising Group are holding their first event this weekend in a bid to raise funds for the Mourne Mountains Rescue Team.
The event takes the form of a sponsored cycle this Saturday, February 26 beginning at 10am from the boathouse on the River Bann beside Tesco off Meadow Lane, Portadown.
There will be limited parking at the boathouse but you can park at Tesco.
The cycle will begin in Portadown and follow the Newry Canal towpath to Acton Lake before returning again to Portadown. If you wish to continue on to Newry please inform a member of the fundraising group on the day.
Refreshments will be made available at Acton Lake for all participants.
To be eligible to take part anyone interested must have a minimum sponsorship raised of £10 which must be paid on the day.
The towpath crosses a number of roads along the way so please dismount and cross with caution.
Please come prepared for all types of weather. Waterproof clothing is advisable.
This is the first fundraising event the group will be having with several others in the pipeline, including a table quiz next month, details of which will be published in due course.
The main fundraiser will be held in August when it is hoped that 20 hikers will walk Hadrian’s Wall over five days. There are still spaces available for those interested in doing the walk. For more information contact Eddie on 07890886453 or email Kathy on email@example.com
