Banbridge are out of the Junior Cup, beaten narrowly by Warrenpoint.

The match was played last Sunday at the neutral venue of Portadown.

The weather was dreadful with non-stop rain and the players all showed great tenacity as they battled their way around the course.

Kieran Magennis lost in the top game by two and one.

Matthew Mallon lost at number two, also by two and one.

These two games could have gone either way but the luck favoured Warrenpoint.

Jonathan Shannon then won for Banbridge by two and one.

So two games remained. Warrenpoint needed to win one of them, Banbridge had to win both to go through.

Mark McCoy took his opponent to the 18th but he lost one down.

That was it all over. Jamie Thompson, one down after 17 holes, was called in.

Team captain Hugo Downey was disappointed. His team had given of their best but the conditions and a strong Warrenpoint team proved too difficult to conquer.

It’s just another sad story. Life goes on.
