IT has been common knowledge that Banbridge Cycling Club have produced some of the best in the business with such riders as Seamus Downey, Tommy Evans, Neil Taggert, Sean Downey, Don Travers and Terry Mackin to name only a few - the list is endless - but with such great names making up the clubs history our recent young guns haven’t failed to deliver.

Over the winter period a new Irish team was forming to help young Irish riders develop and set them on a straight path towards the possibility of turning professional.

The team, known as the Nicholas Roche Performance Team, is made up of eight young cyclists and Banbridge Cycling Club had the talent in the club to fill two of the spaces, courtesy of Mark Downey and Matthew Taggert.

These two guys come from good stock with their fathers being mentioned above. The two guys have earned their place with their outstanding performances last year as Under 16’s both with Irish and Northern Irish Championship accolades to their names.

Mark has already achieved some podium finishes in the early season racing this year and will soon claim the no 1 spot.

Matthew is recovering from a minor setback from the off season but should be fighting fit shortly and will be mixing it with his teammate for the podium.

We look forward to see how the two guys progress throughout the year.

Not to be outdone by the two guys, Banbridge Cycling Club has a young lady whohas caused quite a stir in the cycling fraternity with her bike-handling and dart throwing skills.

Sheena McKiverigan has been selected for the Neenan Travel 2020 Talent Team to represent “Cycling Ireland” in the Youth Tour of Scotland from the 6th to 8th of April. Sheena will get a taste of racing against the best riders in the UK and will relish the experience as well as dish out the pain to the other competitors.

Banbridge Cycling Club would like to wish the trio all the best of luck in the forthcoming season and will be following their progress intently.
