Last week West Down Wheelers held another round of their Road Race Series for the Imperial Cup, and Paul Wilkinson took the round as the first Wheeler home.
Starting at Gibson Quarry the riders then headed to Balievey Crossroads out to the Corbet turning left and out to Gallbog Crossroads, down past Garvaghy Postrich Office and back to Start/Finish line.
The 44 Riders were split into four groups with the H/Cap from scratch to the limit group 12 mins.
The four laps of a really tough circuit took its toll on the riders, with all groups losing a rider or two and that makes it harder work but it still came down to a mass bunch sprint.
And it was James Curry of Banbridge CC who won the sprint, taking a very good victory.
It was Paul Wilkinson who takes this round of the Imperial Cup as he was the first Wheeler home with Ian Weir second and Brandon third.
Ian’s second place puts him in poll position as he is riding really well but the most impressive rider on the night was a young rider still pushing Junior Gears, Brandon Douglas.
His decision to go off Scratch was a brave one with riders of the quality of R Aiken, G Crory, J Curry, P Wilkinson, D McKnight and the Magowan brothers.
But it was the right decision and he rode a fantastic race.
He’s certainly doing the club and himself proud.
