Banbridge CC’s up and coming all rounder James Curry left home this week to take up his place at the World Cycling Centre in Aigle, Switzerland which is effectively the world’s governing body - UCI’s centre of excellence.
After winning the Irish National U16 MTB title recently, James was one of two Irish riders to be selected for this outstanding opportunity to taste life as a fledgling full time rider over a two week period. James has been able to call on the experience of club mate Sean Downey who has lived there recently. Life will not be easy. Sean tells him: “We’re up bright and early at about 7am. Our morning sessions are usually a couple of hours on a road ride or a gym session.
“We have gym two to three times a week as it plays a very big part in our training as sprinters.
“We then have our lunch and rest for an hour or two before we have our training on the track in the afternoon. “We then have dinner at 6pm and return back to our accommodation where our lights must be out at 10pm.”
Everyone in Banbridge CC wish James every success in this visit.
