THE season in the West Down Zone was wound up with finals night at the annual pairs competion hosted by First Dromara bowling club.
From an entry of 88 pairs, six pairs returned to do battle with the eventual winners being the Ballinderry brothers, Gordon and Raymond Stubbs, who defeated husband and wife team, Joe and Pauline Beattie, 10-4 in a final of high quality bowls.
At the semi-final stage the winners defeated Stanley Graham and Glen Harvey (Annahilt Pres) 7-4 whilst the runners up overcame George Ervine and Nigel Hamilton (Hillsborough Social Club) 12-2.
Other section winners were (skips only) Andrew Johnston, St.Patrick’s Donaghcloney; and Eamon O’Neill, St.John’s Gilford.
West Down Zone convenor Harold Massey congratulated tournament convenor Denis Kane on the success of the tournament whilst Willie Clingham, club chairman, presented the prizes.
Club secretaries are reminded that the A.G.M of the West Down league takes place in St.Colman’s Annaclone on Tuesday April 24 at 8pm.
