Exciting times for Cup team

The Banbridge Fred Daly Cup team played Malone in the fourth round, home and away, at the weekend. Kieran Magennis had the team well prepared.

They went to the beautiful course at Malone last Friday and did well to get two games out of the seven played.

Jonathan Brush lost 5 and 3. Josh Crory won 1 up. Patrick Magennis lost 3 and 2. Callum Barnes lost 1 down. Scott Nelson lost 4 and 3. Jamie Thompson won 4 and 3. Luke Crory lost 2 down.

The home leg was played over the Huntly Road links last Sunday. Banbridge could afford no slip-ups. They all rose to the occasion.

Jonathan Brush halved his game. Josh Crory won 2 and 1. Patrick Magennis won 2 and 1. Callum Barnes won 5 and 4. Scott Nelson won 2 and 1. Jamie Thompson won 6 and 5. Luke Crory won 6 and 4.

Banbridge won the home leg by 6.5 to 0.5 and won the match overall by 3 points.

This team seems to be improving every match. They are now into the Ulster quarter final and, who knows, they could go even further. Let’s hope so.

Junior Cowdy lose to Rockmount

The Banbridge Junior Cowdy Cup team, captained by Colin Smylie, went to Rockmount last Sunday for the second leg of their first round match. They had lost at home, 1.5 to 2.5, so they were up against it.

The top pairing of Dominic Quinn and James Bryson got off to a flier. They were 3 up early on but couldn’t maintain the momentum and eventually lost by 2 and 1.

Victor McNeill &Joseph McGivern got a half match.

Dermot Magee and Aaron Buchanan won 5 and 4. That was a superb result and it gave Banbridge a chance.

They needed Gerry Blevins and Robert Haire to win to force a tie. They lost their match 3 and 1. Rockmount had won 5-3 overall.
