THE annual prize night for Ulster Cycling – the governing body for cycle sport in the Province- sees the distribution of awards and honours to cyclists from clubs all over the nine counties and from all branches of the sport.
Held towards the end of January, it is a showcase for talent in the under age, junior and senior categories and the level of recognition achieved there is generally regarded as an indicator of the strength in depth of any club.
Happily Banbridge Cycling Club can consider itself to be in excellent shape given the outstanding level of success witnessed on the night.
Take the under age groups for example: from under-eight right through to under 16, club riders were both numerous and worthy winners dominating events right across the country throughout 2011. Success was achieved in cross country, cyclo-cross, track, time trial and road racing - illustrating the diversity of young talent present in the club.
Awards were presented to under age riders as follows:
Under 8: Charley Dunlop and Christopher Curry
Under 10: Niamh McKiverigan, Mark Buller and Jack Baird
Under 12: John Buller.
Under 14: Shannon Buller, Shenna McKiverigan, Joseph Baird, James Curry, Richard Baird, Hayley Priestly and Ryan Teggart.
Under 16: Daniel Runciman, Matthew Teggart, David Montgomery , Mark Downey.
The individual awards involved are listed beside their photos and it’s immediately apparent that these riders have performed consistently at the highest level in their respective age groups – promising a bright future for the club in the years ahead.
Behind all of these riders is a strong network of family support, club coaches and mentors ,all of whom deserve credit for their contribution towards such notable success.
Next week the Junior and Senior award winners will be featured and from the number involved in the awards night , it will be clear that Banbridge Cycling Club continue to produce winners at every level. Don’t miss it.
