Albert Morrison was a popular winner of the Thursday Open.

Albert Morrison (21) is a keen supporter of the Open Stableford, which is played at Banbridge Golf Club every Thursday during the summer season.

Albert has played in all 16 of this year’s Thursday Opens and this was his first win.

Albert played a very steady round of golf to total 40 points. That was the best score of the day and Albert was delighted.

Jonathan Ward (4), a player who has been in great form of late, was runner-up with 39 points. Jonathan went round in one over par gross 70. That’s pretty impressive.

Gordon Dickson (17) was third with 38 points.

Stefan Greenberg (scr) won the best gross prize with a 2 over par 71.

Albert Morrison is a quiet-spoken gentleman and everyone was delighted with his success.

The PIGS golf society from within Banbridge Golf Club went on an outing last Thursday to Warrenpoint.

In first place, with 34 points, was Derek Mathers and you couldn’t have picked a more popular winner.

Derek hasn’t played a lot of golf in recent months and it is great to see back in action and playing well.

The final of the Haughton Smyth Cup will be between Jonathan Ward and Luke Woods.

In the semi-finals, Jonathan beat Kenny Stevenson 1 up and Luke beat Jonathan Shannon.

Kenny Stevenson was full of praise for Jonathan Ward. “He never made a mistake,” said Kenny. “I made one, at the seventeenth, lost the hole and subsequently the match.”

It’s going to be an interesting final, that’s for sure.
