More Matthews magic seals a win at the seaside.

Bann 3rds 3 Bangor Thirds 1

The men’s Thirds match survived the elements on Friday night and saw them come away with all three points after a tough encounter against a strong Bangor side.

Late call offs from James Anderson and Luke Woods meant that Bann went into the game with only young Charlie Norris on the bench.

The game started at a slow pace with both sides trying to probe each others defences which didn’t create any clear cut chances.

Marshall was linking up well with Scott down the left hand side and the latter fed the ball into Matthews just outside the circle.

The energetic forward drove strongly into the circle and rounded the Bangor keeper to give Bann the lead.

Anderson was left exposed in defence and had no alternative but to obstruct a Bangor forward and was shown a deserved yellow card for the cynical foul.

Bann defended the subsequent short corner and Adair made a couple of strong saves as Bangor tried to take advantage of the

extra man. When Bann were back to full numbers a quick attack found Matthews once again one on one with the Bangor

defence and after eliminating the last defender made no mistake from just inside the circle.

Bangor got back into the game early on in the second half after Bann’s midfield was out muscled and the ball found a Bangor

forward unmarked who reduced the deficit from close range.

Bann started to look lively on the counter attack and Matthews and Kennedy were unlucky not to increase Bann’s lead.

Bann finally put the game out of sight of Bangor when Brown found Matthews in the circle and the inform striker finished well on his reverse.

Both sides continued to attack but couldn’t find anymore goals. The Thirds return to Bangor on Saturday to play Bangor’s Seconds.
