The score line could have been different had Slane taken the chances in front of goal.

Slane had a great opportunity on the first minute but Gary Megaw hit just over the bar. On five minutes it was Megaw again who broke through but the big City keeper made a good save.

On the half hour the visitors took the lead when a corner was swung into the back post, it flew past all the Slane defenders and in off the upright.

Darren Trimble swung the ball into the danger zone but Megaw headed wrong side of the woodwork. City doubled their lead when a fierce shot was parried by Fry out to the striker who coolly netted for the visitors.

Two minutes before the break Slane grabbed a goal back when Gareth Hamilton swung a corner into the near post; Neil Gamble got a good touch on the volley to power it through the crowd and into the net.

City should have gone another goal for the good in the first minute of the second half but the striker hit wide when he should have done better.

David McCullough hit just over for Slane on the hour. The locals upped the tempo to try and get the equaliser and should have the finishing been more clinical in front of goal. Gibson hit wide, Hamilton hit over and Slane where then caught on the break when City broke upfield, converting with eight minutes to go.

Slane again had more chances but failed to hit the target.

The visitors hit Slane right on the final whistle for another goal and ran out victorious at the end.

Best for Slane on the day was Gareth McDowell in the centre of the pitch who fired himself into every tackle with great conviction.

Team: Nigel Fry, Mark Gibson, William Thompson, David Cromie, Neil Gamble, Jason Gibson, Richard Hanna, Gareth Hamilton, Ryan Weir, Darren Trimble, Gary Megaw, Gareth McDowell, David McCullough.
