McCandless and Woods on target

BUOYED with the success of regaining top spot in Junior League One Bann travelled to Stormont to take on Civil Service.

Bann welcomed back Matthew Hurst and Timothy Watt from injury and both were included in the starting line up. Bann failed to find their rhythm from the start with Civil Service pressing high up the pitch.

Ryan O’Neill had to be sharp in goal to prevent Civil Service taking an early lead. Bann were reverting to long balls out of defence with Burns finding McAnulty and Woods on several occasions.

Both forwards were causing Civil Service problems and after working the ball into the circle Woods won the first short corner for Bann. Up stepped McCandless to power the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal giving the Civil Service keeper no chance.

Bann doubled their lead shortly after from another short corner from McCandless this time into the right hand side netting. Civil service continued to press forward and were unlucky not to pull a goal back just before half time.

The second half continued in the same vein with Bann failing to control possession and Civil Service pushing forward at every opportunity.

Bann did manage to gain some control towards the middle of the second half and after McAnulty was released from midfield he weaved his way past a couple of defenders before playing the ball across for Woods for a simple tap in at the back post.

Bann won a further three corners but were unable to convert due to some excellent saves from the Civil Service keeper.

Civil Service fought right to the end and spurned a couple of deflections close to the end. Bann entertain Garvey’s three’s next Saturday at Havelock at 2.30pm.
