Mallon proves he is '˜Phil' of talent with two big wins

In his younger day, he was an exceptional footballer, a brilliant table tennis player, an above average tennis player and an outstanding squash player.

His big interest now is the game of golf and he has become one of the most consistent players in the Banbridge club. He was given a 12 handicap to start with and he has never gone above that.

Philip has started this season in great form, winning both the Easter Monday Medal and the Thursday Sweep.

Philip won the Bank Holiday competition with 44 points. He went round in only two over par gross 71.

Eugene Weir (5) is another very consistent player. He shot a gross 68 and he took second place with 42 points.

Cathal O’Neill (11) played the last six holes in level par and that is not easy to do. He took third place, also with 42 points.

Conor Doran (+1) won the best gross prize with a level par round of 69. He beat Luke Woods (4), Jonathan Ward (5) and Matthew Mallon (6) on countback.

The prize for best senior player went to Colin McKinney (19) with 40 points.

A certain top-ranking player had 41 points but his card couldn’t be found. He must have taken it home in his pocket. It was a costly error.

Donald Doyle (23) came close with 40 points, as did Alan Dale (12) with 39 points.

Meanwhile, he also won the 14 hole sweep last Thursday with 31 points. He is certainly looking forward to playing the course from the back tees.

Felix Duffy was the happiest man around after the results came in. He had the only two on the day and he won the biggest rollover of the season so far. Happy days!

2nd- Michael Robinson (14) 30 points.

3rd- Dennis Lockhart (14) 29 points.
