Magee has 'nothing to fear' from World title bout

Lisburn boxer Brian Magee has said he has 'nothing to fear' when he steps into the ring for his dream World title fight against Lucian Bute next year.

It was announced earlier this week that Magee, the European Super-Middleweight Champion, will take on Romanian-born Bute in his own backyard in his adopted home city, when he steps between the ropes at the Bell Center in Montreal, Canada, on March 19.

In what could be the best early Christmas present the local man has ever received, Magee will receive the biggest pay-day of his career in a bout that will be televised worldwide, as Magee faces Bute for the IBF crown.

Bute boasts an impressive unbeaten record, including 22 knockouts from 27 bouts.

Despite this, the local man says that all the pressure is on his opponent.

"He's the golden boy of my division, he's just signed a major deal with Showtime, he's making the biggest money; this is one fight everybody would jump at. If you won this one you would be writing your won cheques. He's such a big star, he sells out shows all the time there so this is a great opportunity for me; I'm very happy.

"However, the pressure should be on him. He's signed the big deal with Showtime, he's unbeaten; the pressure is on him to keep that record going. I've got nothing to lose; if I win it's massive, it's all good from my end. I now have to work hard to get in the best condition for the hardest fight of my life."

Magee, who described the fight as 'massive' will be joined by his team and supporters in Canada in early March as he travels over a week to ten days prior to the fight, however, he will have the opportunity to view the venue in mid-January when he flies to Montreal for the press conference in the build-up to the bout.

"It's huge, I've always worked hard to get back up here," he said.

"I have nothing to fear from anybody," Magee added. "The main thing is to come out of it unharmed."
