Luke Woods wins the Saturday sweep with 36 points for 13 holes

The competition last Saturday was played over 13 holes. Slowly but surely we are progressing towards the full 18 holes.

Luke Woods (4) was in scintillating form. He played the 13 holes in 7 under par gross and that resulted in an superb winning score of 36 points.

Incidentally, the record score for 13 holes was set by David Thompson back in February 2013 and equalled by Paul Wylie in January 2014. They both had 38 points.

The best score last season for 13 holes was 37 pts and that came from Shane Crossan.

The standard of scoring last Saturday was mind-blowing. Cecil Wilson (13) had 35 points and he won the middle section (13-17). Aidy McEvoy was runner-up with 32 points.

Bill McCandless (6) went round in 4 under par and he duly won the low section (0-12) with 34 points. Sydney Pepper (12) was second with 33 points.

Dominic McArdle (21) won the high section (18+) with a very commendable 33 points. Albert Morrison (21) was runner-up with 30 points.

The ever-young Kenny Stevenson (2) won the best gross prize with 27 gross points.

And, last but not least, Jim Cochrane (12) won the prize for best senior with 32 points.

It was a very hotly contested competition and the excitement is building up to the start of the golf season proper. We can’t wait!
