Lucky number seven for Dromore

Ulster U16 High Schools' Trophy

Dromore High School 34

Slemish College 7

DROMORE High School ran out comfortable winners for the seventh year in succession, scoring six tries in their 34- 7 win over Slemish College on a sunny afternoon at Ulster Rugby headquarters.

Although Slemish College had an early chance with a penalty, the experienced Dromore side began to dominate the opening exchanges. Influential scrum-half Lee Steenson sneeked over for the opening score after a barnstorming by Dromore captain Andrew Black. Lee converted his own try.

No.8 Tom Jess then scored from a ‘catch and drive’ after directing the maul towards the try line. Just before the break Dromore then scored a try to grace any final at Ravenhill – after securing possession from a set piece, Steenson and out-half Chris Davidson conjured up a sweeping move involving a loop and decoy runners to send full-back Harry Warren over the line to leave the score 17-0 at half-time.

Into the second period Dromore effectively sealed the match when they soaked up Slemish pressure only for Lee Steenson to scamper from deep down the blindside in front of the main stand deep to add his second try.

Dromore quicky scored their fifth after another break, finished off by a spectacular dive by replacement Luke Morrison, taking the score to 27–0. All the squad were mightly relieved that Luke emerged uninjured from his flight!

Slemish fought back, moving the ball at every opportunity. After a period of sustained pressure in the Dromore ‘22’ the College finally got their reward a well deserved try which was successfully converted.
