Local bowlers in action as NIPGL championships are underway

This week sees the start of the NIPGL Championships with the Singles Championship having been played on Monday 25th.

Reigning Champion Peter Convery received a bye to the second round when he will face Paul McCarney of Falls (Monday 9th May).

This Friday 29th, the first round of pairs will be played, with six games at Dunbarton. 2014 winners Conor McCartan & DJ Wilson get this year’s campaign started against Ewarts pair of Wright / Chambers. 2011 Runners-Up Tony Bell & Andy Hughes face Ballymena’s Torrington / Torrington.

Other home games see Jack Moffet & Alan Paul v Michael Morgan / Paul McEwan (Falls), Chris & Kieran Trainor v Caughey / Caughey (Pickie), Tony Thompson & Michael Merritt v Fitzgerald / Smith (NICS) and David Copeland & Brian Prunty v Eddie Crawford / Gareth Bell (Mossley). Away from home, Gary McElroy & Chris Mulholland travel to Bangor to face Pickie pair Paul Canning and Peter Campbell.

More intriguingly, on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May, the game of the opening round of the Triples brings two Dunbarton triples face to face. Current British Isles title holders, Michael Higgins, Tony Bell and Andy Hughes plays Jack Moffett, Alan Paul and Myles Greenfield. 2013 Irish Triples winners David Copeland, Conor McCartan and DJ Wilson have home advantage over a strong Ballymena triple skipped by Stevie Coleman. The remaining home game sees Chris Trainor, Michael Merritt and Martin Trainor play T Roberts of Shorts.

There are two aray fixtures involving locals, with Brian Prunty, Gary McElroy & Peter Convery facing Freddie Simpson (Shaftesbury), while Sean Trainor, Kieran Trainor and James Kelly return to Old Bleach for their tie against Jonny Millar.

All games start at 6.30pm and results for all games will be posted next week.
