Lindsay takes top spot at Wheelers

West Down Wheelers' two timekeepers, who have had a busy season so far with huge entries in all of the club's races.

In what was the toughest race of the season so far, 25 riders signed on. Starting in Katesbridge, the tough course went via the brutal Rathfriland Hill twice.

The only brave lady rider to start was Andrea Cunningham who is never afraid to have a go and what makes it harder for her is she had to go off on her own, followed by the first group which were all of her club mates in Dromore CC.

Four minutes later went the next group containing Darren Lynas making his first appearance of the year.

Then three minutes after this went the next group with the big Scratch Group a further three minutes adrift.

Just after rhe Rathfriland Hill what was left of all the groups came togather with quite a few losing a wheel going up the hill.

There was still a good sized group to contest the sprint and so coming on to the finishing straight, it all kicked off with Plush MTB Lindsay Watson taking a very good win from Gary Cror.

It was Paul Wilkinson who was first Wheeler home and wins another round of the Imperial Cup with Brandon and Darren filling the top three places for the Wheelers.

Our next race will be on 19th July which is another Aussie Pursuit starting on Rathfriland Road and finishing at Ballydown crossroads.

10 mile TT Castlewellan Road

Next week’s race is a 10 mile TT on the Castlewellan Road. With riders still on holiday, if you can make it, the club would be glad to see you.

SIX RACES LEFT

As you may well be aware, there are only six races left in the Wheelers’ calender but there are still trophies up for grabs.

Go out and train like you never have done before and get your name on one of those cups. Any rider who wins a Trophy this year can be proud of themselves as the Competition in the club now is so tough.
