Late Sands strike seals win as Frizzel shines

Banbridge Town U13s 2

Tandragee Rovers 1

A wonder-strike five minutes from time by Cameron Sands sealed the points for Town Juniors away at Tandragee last Saturday morning.

The locals should have won the game by a bigger margin but couldn’t get the goals their possession deserved.

They got off to the perfect start after just five minutes when striker Troy McConville was upended in the box after a mazy run and the same player coolly slotted home the resulting penalty.

However, Town were stunned just two minutes later when the home side equalised with their first attack to make it 1-1. Banbridge controlled the remainder of the half, in particular Shea Winters who was pulling the strings in the centre of the park alongside Cameron Frizzel. However, the Juniors couldn’t convert this

pressure into goals.

At the back both Rico Scappaticci and David Magill put in hard-working displays and as Town forced a series of corners, again they couldn’t find that second goal.

The second half was a similar pattern to the first with captain Ruairi Andrews causing all sorts of problems for Tandragee down the right-wing and Josh Treanor driving at them down the left. Banbridge had plenty of chances to score the winner but failed to get any shots on target to cause the home ‘keeper problems.

The winner came five minutes from the end when Shea Winters picked the ball up in midfield and worked it into the path of Cameron Sands. He unleashed a fierce drive from 30 yards out and it flew into the top left corner giving the ‘keeper no chance. It was a goal the locals thoroughly deserved and will give them a boost as the second half of the season approaches.

Banbridge Town’s man of the match was impressive midfielder Cameron Frizzel.
