Late point denies Clann victory

Clann got off to the worst possible start conceding a goal and three points in the opening 15 minutes to leave them trailing by six with no reply.

Alan McGrath was brought in to replace Fox and the Clann hit back with Mallon blasting over for the Clann’s first score. Clann were passing the ball much better and Lenaghan played the ball to Hill to hit a snap shot and force the keeper to tip over the bar to close the gap to four.

Mallon hit short to Feeney and he played the ball back to Mallon again to point and close the gap to three.

Bredagh hit back themselves with another three unanswered points to give them a six point lead coming close to half time. The Clann hit back with Hill scoring a great individual point, skipping round the Bredagh defence and smashing the ball over the bar.

The Clann came out strong in the second half and didn’t take long to start closing the gap, Feeney and McArdle both pointing frees to close the gap to three.

Feeney pointed from play to cut the gap down to two. The Clann’s work rate was tremendous in the second half, Mallon and Feeney working hard to win possession back and play in Devlin to score from play and cut the gap to one. Brian Donaghy entered the game for Gary Quinn.

Clann finally got what they deserved when Hill flicked the ball over the bar from a well worked free to draw the game level at 1-6 to 0-9. The Clann finally took the lead with Feeney stepping up to point from a free to give the Clann the lead for the first time in the game.

Bredagh hit back with their first score of the second half to draw the game level with a point from play. McArdle put the Clann ahead with little time remaining after scoring a well taken point under pressure from the Bedagh defence.

But just as the Clann thought they had won the game, Bredagh hit back to level the game with one of the final kicks of the game and the match finished Clann 0-11 Bredagh 1-8.

The Clann travel to local rivals Tullylish on Friday night for the first derby match of the season.
