Ladies gain six points at Whitehead

ON Thursday May 10 Banbridge travelled to Portadown to discover that the green was unplayable. This match has yet to be rescheduled.

Despite rain the match against Whitehead on Thursday May 17 at Banbridge went ahead. Banbridge were overall winners, gaining six League points. Rink results were:

Rink 1: L. Byrne, A. Donald, E. Whyte, M.Martin - 22–12

Rink 2: J. Nesbitt, R. McGivern, H. Beresford, R. McAdam - 15–10½

Rink 3: H. Shepherd, L. Frost, C. McDermott, M. Campbell - 11–14

Rink 4: I. Hozack, H. Wilkinson, V. Newell, M. Adams - 22–13

In the next League match on May 24 Banbridge travel to Ballyholme.

The NIWBA Championships have been getting under way, but Banbridge have not fared so well in the first round. In the Pairs, played on May 8, Jenny Nesbitt was beaten by M. McCaffrey (Divis) and Cassie McDermott lost to E. Johnston (Holywood).Mary Martin won her match against S. Rice (Newry), while Lee Frost had a bye into the second round.

The first round of the Fours was played on Tuesday May 15 when Valerie Newell was beaten by I. Eldon (Dungannon). Margaret Campbell and Marjorie Adams had byes.

Wednesday May 16 saw Margaret Campbell’s Triple travel to Dungannon where Ida Eldon once again proved too strong, winning a close match by five shots. Heather Beresford’s triple travelled to Ballyholme where they lost to M. Murray. Cassie McDermott had a walk-over against R. Simpson (Holywood).

The second round of the Pairs will be played on Tuesday May 22 when Mary Martin is at home to Ann Sloan (Dungannon) and Lee Frost travels to Donaghadee to play Julia Bell. On Friday May 25 Jenny Nesbitt is due to play B. McGleenan (Dungannon) in the second round of the singles.
