Ladies 2s end year on top form with three successive victories

Banbridge Ladies’ 2s picked up their third successive 3-1 win on Saturday, beating Lurgan 2s.

Lurgan put Bann under pressure for the first ten minute period but Banbridge soon settled to find their form. Alannah Magee was instrumental in midfield while Sarah Gamble and Elyane Brown caused constant problems for their Lurgan counterparts.

Sarah Anderson opened the scoring after working with Helen Sawyers to beat the Lurgan defence and, finding space in the circle, she hammered the ball past the keeper. Megan and Melissa Whan showed great skill and determination but it was Nadene Black who grabbed the second goal with a great mid-circle strike.

Ashleigh Mitchell soon added a third goal with a dive in front of goals to catch a deflection off the keeper’s pads. Banbridge worked well as a defensive unit with Kate Cunningham, Jess Hassan, Joanna Palnoch and JoAnne Lyttle all showing great form. Louise Beckett stepped up to the 2s and had a super game in goals.

Their impressive run had begun with a victory over Dromore at Havelock. That day, two goals from Nadene Black and another from Elyane Brown ensured that Banbridge were victorious.

Bann Ladies then beat a flustered Ballyclare at the Academy with goals coming from Nadene Black, Sarah Anderson and Sarah Gamble.

Banbridge will now take a hard-earned Christmas break and go into the New Year sitting third in the league, one point behind second-placed Lisnagarvey.
