Kieran Meade wins the Mervyn Guy Memorial

OVER 200 golfers played in the Mervyn Guy Memorial Golf Tournament at Banbridge Golf Club last Saturday.

The official results are not available as yet but it looks as if the winner was Kieran Meade, with an excellent score of 43 points.

Kieran didn’t start too convincingly. He dinged the first and bogeyed the second but, after that, he played some delightful shots. Two birdies in the final four holes was the icing on the cake for Kieran.

And he needed those birdies to hold off the challenges from Alan McGowan and Josh Lockhart, who each had 43 points.

The downside for Kieran is the fact that his handicap is cut to 16 and he automatically drops off the Junior Cowdy Cup team. He was a key member of Tom Fee’s team but, in all fairness, he was too good a player to be playing off an 18 handicap.

Barrie McCoy was fourth with 42 points and he has put himself strongly into contention for a place on the Junior Cowdy team.

The full-classified results of the Mervyn Guy Memorial will be published in next week’s notes.
