Juniors host their end of season hockey tournament

DROMORE Ladies Hockey Club Juniors descended on Ferris Park on Saturday to host their annual end of season Junior Tournament.

Ferris Park came alive to the sound 51 enthusiastic teams from six clubs. Dromore girls were joined by Saintfield, Portadown, Banbridge, Lurgan, Victorians and Lisnagarvey so about 450 girls arrived there to play against each other in the tournament with teams representing P3, P4, P5, P6, P7, and U13 with gold medals and a trophy for the winners in each age group and silver medals for the runners up.

The weather held with sunny skies and a brisk breeze. Enthusiasm was high all day as the girls played their matches with their club colours painted on their faces, chanting support to each other.

There was a lot of hockey and cheering all day amidst the facepainting, bouncy castle,  all day barbeque, teas and coffee, sports and jewellery stall and music and commentary. Well done to the DJs who kept everyone informed of their matches and to Johnny McBride who had the mammoth task of scheduling the matces for the 51 teams.

The girls had a busy day packed with play and fun with great support from parents and coaches who attended to support their teams. Well done to all the girls for their team spirit.  A special thanks to all who helped in all aspects of organisation of this huge event.
