Juniors head to Wales for Junior Championships

Twenty-eight juniors from Ballyvally Archery Club took part in the 11th Annual UK Junior Field Archery Championships.

Last year this event was in Wales at Pentref just outside Cardiff and next year in July 2014 it will move to Cheshire in England.

This weekend it was shot in the grounds of Loughbrickland House where two international courses are being constructed to deal with the British open in Field Archery to be held in May 2014.

The two courses were testing and a good practice for the five NIAS archers going to shoot in the European Field Champs in Italy at the end of August.

The weather too was very good, being hot on Saturday and mild on Sunday - but on neither day did it rain!

MAJOR AWARDS

Major overall trophies were won by Luke Gilmour in the Under 15 years category and Craig McCreery in the Under 18 barebow.

Meanwhile in the girls barebow Sophie McConville won the Under 18 section.

Aimee Convery won the Under 15 girls freestyle while Emma Kearns and Tristan Morrow won the girls and boys longbow sections .

Ballyvally Archery Club is a cross community club with probably the biggest junior section in Ireland.

The outdoor courses are used at the weekends, while during the week the club shoots in Banbridge Leisure Centre on Wednesdays and Thursday.

Beginners sessions are available on an ongoing basis - contact the club for details.
