Juniors head to Portadown to play in tournament

On Sunday Dromore Juniors headed to Edenvilla for the Portadown club’s tournament where they were joined by Banbridge, Lurgan and Pegasus.

The Portadown club exhibited their usual hospitality and well run tournament to ensure all the girls had a good day at the tournament. Dromore sent one team in each age group one accompanied by team coaches, managers and our very supportive band of parents to cheer us on.

Primary 5 did well with wins and a lot of goals scored with Ruby Wilson scoring three, Pippa Wilson scoring two and Sophie Malcolmson one.

This is a strong team which has matured and the club has hopes they will follow their very successful year last year. Primary 6 played well holding Banbridge to 2-0 and Portadown B to 1-0 and a scoreless draw against Portadown A.

Primary 7 started off very strong with decisive wins and great play against Pegasus 1-0, Portadown B 3-0 and Banbridge 4-1. Against Lurgan they lost form and played a bewildered match to lose 3-0.

This strong, mature team regrouped and under guidance of coach Tara Malcolmson pulled it back to play a very strong final game against Portadown and although they lost 1-0 seconds before the final tournament whistle, which pushed them into third, their team play was exquisite.

The club has high hopes for this strong teamgoals came from Zara Greenfield and the dependable scorer Katie McDonald with two beautiful goals from Tara Kelly who managed to find those special goals from the rebound.

- On Saturday Dromore Ladies first XI hockey team played Rainey at Ferris Park in Dromore.

Rainey were the first team to break the deadlock and put the ball in the net. This gave Dromore the wake- up call they needed and soon they also were within inches of the Rainey net. After a stern team talk at half time the Dromore girls went out ready to close the deficit and take the lead. Captain Tara Malcolmson stepped up to the mark and converted a short corner giving Dromore the goal they needed. Rainey continued to press hard on the Dromore team and put further goals into the Dromore net. The final score was Rainey 4, Dromore 1.
