Johnston double seals impressive win for Rathfriland Swifts U10s

Banbridge Rangers U10 1 Rathfriland Swifts U10 3

Rathfriland Swifts U10 faced a strong Banbridge Rangers side at sun drenched Havelock Park on Saturday morning.

It was the Rangers who started the stronger and put the Rathfriland defence of Travers, Shimmons and Fitzsimmons under a lot of early pressure which culminated in them hitting the bar with Maginn in goal for once beaten.

As the game progressed the Swifts midfield began to come more into the game with Jordan Magowan, Scott Chambers on the left combining well with Ben Johnston to test the home defence. Rathfriland deservedly took the lead when a perfectly delivered corner from Mark Bronte was expertly finished by Caolan Teer.

The second half saw Rathfriland press home their advantage with Johnston converting another Bronte corner and making it 3 – 0 by firing home at the near post from close range after a throw in on the right. Rangers did hit back with a goal of their own with seven minutes to go but Rathfriland resisted the late onslaught to seal the end of season win.
