His 23.40 was a good time and came in at 28 seconds quicker than second place Wheeler Paul McManus, who posted 24 08. Visitor David McKnight came in at an impressive 23.53.

It was his first race and he showed what a good class rider he is. Two riders tied for third place. They were Will Maxwell and Matthew McKinistry, who couldn’t be separated at 24.57 each. The pair are going to have close times in the coming races.

In the handicap, new kid on the block Geoffrey Tate from Rathfriland posted a vastly improved time and won the handicap, which is the first race in the Outlook Shield series.

Normally not far from the prizes, Paul Wilkinson punctured on the way to the turn and that ended his race.
